Hello!
I’m a big fan (or a sucker) for behind the scenes features. Not only “how we made this” but also “the story behind the story” featurettes. Thanks to Austin Kleon, I saw this about the guy who created SinkTok, a TikTok account that reviewed bathroom sinks in New York City.
It was a funny little thing that I did that two or three of my friends found amusing and left everybody else totally confused and probably a little weirded out.
He started it on Instagram for a few friends’ amusement! It also sounds like the story of how Mike Myers created Austin Powers. The character was a voice and catchphrases he’d do for his wife at the time, based on the movies he watched with his dad as a kid. She told him to “shut up and write it down.”
Which proves if there’s something creative you enjoy doing, chances are you aren’t the only one.
So think about this: what interests you? Did your laptop keyboard or dryer recently break?
What brings you joy to make? Don’t worry about what you need to create or feel obligated to make. Start instead with what amuses you first, and go from there.
